Arthritis is an inflammatory condition that causes tenderness, swelling and severe pain in the tendons, joints and bones.

Arthritis is difficult to diagnose as it affects people in different ways. Areas most commonly affected are the hands, wrists, knees, hips, feet and spine.  It can spread to other parts of the body, causing stiffness and loss of movement. 

There are two common types of arthritis

OSTEOARTHRITIS - Can affect people of any age although most commonly in women and older people. It occurs due to changes in the soft tissue of the joints.

RHEUMATOID - Can affect people of any age although most commonly between 30 and 50 years old. It occurs when the immune system which normally protects the body starts to attack it.

At present there is no known cure for arthritis.
